Purl

Yesterday as Robin and I were driving to church we saw our cat Purl dead on the road.
Yes it is only a cat ,and yes there are millions of annoying gross cats out there.
But for all that Robin and I Sobbed all the way to church.
You see for some reason we really got attached to that cat.
During church I kept remembering different things:
Even her digging up my peas in the garden, and her constant shedding or her drinking out of the toilet.
I remember giving her a bath, taking a nap on the love seat, playing with the rugs in the kitchen(and my feet!)
Taking her to mom and Dad's for christmas , her softness ,and her purr and all the other little things a cat does
So even though I feel silly saying it like one of those crazy animal people:
I miss you Purly

Thank you God that we got the chance to know Purl
You know every sparrow that falls and no matter how small something is you can still use it.
Even a cat.

A pause

Today was a pause from the craziness that is May in a Greenhouse.
unless you've gone through it it's hard to explain. Here are some words that come to mind:
Crazy Gardners, tired feet, water, flowers , long hours, the beeping of the cash register, frazzled, hectic, messy, the weather, walking, running, directing traffic, sun, shade, part sun, Geraniums and much much more!
Work has pretty much taken up my brain except for an occasional thought of: I wonder what normal people are doing right now?
probably planting their garden!

And so I was a normal Iowan and I planted my garden . Really I couldn't wait to do it I was so excited to get started today that I didn't even sleep in.
I was up by 7:30 .
crazy I know On my day off ,but who could resist such sunshine and green grass?

So in parting (as I head out to take down the winter mittens off the line and finish mowing the lawn )
Please remember us crazy greenhouse and floral workers this May we really are usually a bit more sane.

brag post

Okay you might be thinking " how many blogs are gonna have a picture of this kid in it?"
well the answer is plenty .
And this picture I had to post because little cutie pie is wearing the sweater I knit for her!
I knit it before I knew she was a girl so it is navy blue with green buttons.
Her Daddy thinks she looks like a little gnome/elf I think she's just too cute!

May Day

WHen I was growing up the tradition of May Day was first introduced to my brother and I when our closest friends hid their car, snuck through our grove , left may baskets on our doorsteps ,rang the bell and hid. We had no idea what they were doing and their mom had to come and tell us to look for them.
It was so fun to be surprised by a basket of goodies ,and to get to see our friends.
Every year we would do it to them or they would do it to us.
Since nobody really did May baskets anymore it was our very own holiday.
But now I'm old .... I'm looking back to the good old days.
recently I've had to work long hours at the flower shop ,and I usually have no time to think of doing fun little surprises.
This year May Day was on Sunday and though I didn't have the energy to do May baskets I did have a wonderful Sunday on the farm.
I'm learning to not put my expectations so high, but to enjoy the little unexpected holidays.
I'm learning to relax when I have time to relax. Not try to get more things done especially on Sunday. God knew what he was doing when he gave us a day of rest. It is for our own good.
And May Day Sunday was Good. No candy , no surprises, but the sun was shining and Family gathered just to be together.
